    Agree. It's another fantastic Nails abum but no surprises whatsoever and waiting 8 years for an album around the same length as "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly seems kinda weird!

    I agree with you. There were many things on You Will Never Be One Of Us that were great in terms of structure and dynamics, and Abandon All Life had those doomy surprises that were a great contrast to the superfast grindcory instrument-bashing. The new one is a little too straightforward for me. Even in terms of the riffs, a lot of them felt like already heard them. That being said, the vocals are absolute killer and the best ones Jones ever recorded!

      Hey there my friend! I'm not being funny here but the band are pretty damn niche in the first place so I don't think that they have really tried to 'sell out' considering their fan base are going to be hardcore Nile fans and this record is just as brutal as their other stuff haha - I get what you mean though, it's different but doesn't mean that they have sold out!

    Great review and interesting to hear your views. I think it’s solid effort without being brilliant. I totally agree it is far more interesting in the second half / final third. I think with Nile that their highs are so high that they are hard to reach again. For me it’s good but doesn’t have reach the level of some earlier works or have the variety of something like Those Whom The Gods Detest.

    I fell off with Nile after Ithyphallic due to boredom. I loved In Their Darkened Shrines, and hearing Sarcophagus blew me a way when I first saw the video in 2002, it was the heaviest thing I heard at the time, and Annihilation of the Wicked is a masterpiece. Having said that, everything after AOTW didn't have that same impact for me. I've enjoyed the singles from The Underworld Awaits, but I'm still not quite sold, as it does not have that weighty production as you mentioned. I'll give it a listen, but I do wonder if I'm trying to recapture the magic that has already gone.

    • @TheMetalTris
      @TheMetalTris 7 днів тому

      Well I think that one of the key things about this record is that there's a lot of new energy here and there are different ideas that are being discussed you know? Which is one of the positives for me. However like you say, that level of heavy hasn't really been in the band since TWTGD I think, I would really love a reissue of that record haha - but hey we've always got Black Seeds, Annihilation and Shrines to go back to right?!

    Nile is a serious nominee for my favorite Death Metal band, so I am always stoked for everything they do. This album in particular I am curious about, because it is that odd sophomore release post major line up change. The released songs kind of have me not sure what to feel yet, but I have a feeling that the more diverse tracks have yet to be revealed. Just two more days at time of writing this!

    • @TheMetalTris
      @TheMetalTris 7 днів тому

      In all honesty, I think that some of the songs that have been released are definitely not the strongest ones. Though To Strike With Secret Fang I think is a great little ripper. It's more towards the latter half of the record that I think it really kicks into gear. Naqada II and the title track itself is wicked not to mention True Gods of The Desert as well. Lots of rippers so I Will be intrigued to see what you make of it! Thanks for checking out the video all the same though, it's hugely appreciated!

    Be careful with where you place your hopes my friend, one track with growls doesn't mean "a return." If Opeth can be counted on for nothing else, they can be counted on to defy expectations. Watershed had less guttural vocals than it's predecessors, but it was where everything from "Still Life" had basically been leading. Heritage was only a shock to the ones who refused to pay attention. It could also be a total return the "classic era." Not knowing exactly what Mikael would do next is what has made them interesting to more than few of us, and the very thing that disgusted others. Love it or hate it, this album will likely be different than the one that came before it. That is either the best, or the worst thing about them, depending on your perspective. The important thing is that they have the courage to follow the path their muse leads them on. I can pretty much guarantee that it won't disappoint anyone who is willing to not form an opinion on one listen. Mikael has already said as much. I hope it's the album that you want to hear, just don't expect it to be a return. Opeth has never been about the past. I pretty sure this album won't be either.

    I just came across this album today. I heard the start of high spirits from about 2mins in as it builds and then at about 2:42 it just smashes you in the face, what a beautiful song.

      Merci beaucoup!! I went to a French school when I was younger so now it means I can pronounce French band names and even interview bands in French too haha! Such a great record. Also I'm not sure if you might have seen but there's a video where I interviewed the band as well at their show at Underworld. Such fantastic people!

      Yes! I found this out later as well, apparently each track is a different paragraph essentially throughout the reading of the album. I'm really excited to hear what's next and how the record kind of works together with the older sound of the band but also the newer era as well. Exciting times!

      @@TheMetalTris I enjoyed Necrot's album very much, been listening to it non-stop now for months and I have also seen them live for the first time in Slovenia, Tolminator in July. From extreme metal - I have enjoyed Realms of chaos (album "The seed") from Slovakia, Dom zly - "Ku pogrzebaniu serc" from Poland and Guyod -("Heart of the abyss") from Austria lately. From Slovenia I strongly recommend Kamra ("Cerebral alchemy" album).
